Top 10 Transfer Tips

The following suggestions have been gathered to help you prepare for a successful and efficient transfer from JCCC. These suggestions are the most common things that can challenge you as a transfer student, if you don't consider them early in the transfer process.

  1. Start Early
  2. Research schools/programs that you are interested
  3. Know yourself and what is important to you when choosing a school (location, certain degrees offered, price, etc…)
  4. Meet with an Academic Advisor or Counselor
  5. Know the difference between credits that transfer and credits that apply to a degree
  6. Know the admissions and scholarship deadlines for the schools you are interested in transferring to
  7. Use the JCCC Student Success Center including our Transfer Guides (link to transfer guides)
  8. Know the differences between transferring to public/private schools and in state/out of state schools
  9. Know specific transfer policies such as how P/F classes transfer and courses with a grade of “D”
  10. Prepare in advance for success at your transfer school (get involved socially and academically, figure out living arrangements, etc…)
