Recital Highlights a New Horn

Laura New OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Laura New, horn, and Lee Anne Rogers, piano, perform at noon Monday, Oct. 30, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College, as part of the free Ruel Joyce Recital Series featuring Kansas City classical artists.

New has been an adjunct instructor in music theory and ear training at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music since 2004. She has a bachelor of arts degree from Delta State University, a master of music degree in horn performance from New Mexico State University and has completed course work toward a doctorate of musical arts in horn performance at UMKC. She has also taught classes at JCCC in music appreciation, music fundamentals, music theory and ear training. She is an active performer presenting solo recitals and playing with chamber ensembles and orchestras such as the Kansas City Camerata, Brookside Brass Quintet and El Paso Brass Quintet. Rogers, who has a bachelor’s degree in music from California State University-Northridge, is accompanist.

The fall 2006 Ruel Joyce Recital Series concludes with Quartet Accorda
performing at noon Monday, Dec. 4, in the Recital Hall.

The series is named for Ruel Joyce, a longtime jazz bassist who headed the local musicians federation from 1977 until his death in 1989. For more information, call 913-469-8500, ext. 3605.
