JCCC’s Kramer Near Leaders at NJCAA Golf Nationals
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College sophomore Jay Kramer of Lenexa, Kan., is currently in sixth place after three rounds at the NJCAA National Golf Championship at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City, Kan. Kramer has fired rounds of 78, 74 and 69 for a 221 total, just three strokes off the pace set by Matt Snowden of Faulkner, Blake Parks of Odessa and Aaron Manning of Odessa.
Kramer is on pace to set team records for lowest scoring total in a national tournament and highest individual finish. His 221 total for three rounds is a team record, and his round of 69 is the lowest round recorded in a national tournament. In fact, Kramer was the first player in the field to fire a round under 70. Eight other players later joined him. Best tournament score is 295, set last year by Tommy Clifford. He finished tied for 18th, also the best finish in team history.
While Kramer’s 69 on Thursday was impressive, so was his 78 on Tuesday in extremely windy conditions. Only 28 of 102 players in the championship broke 80 in the opening round.
Other JCCC players in the field include sophomore Eric Byers (T-31st, 232), freshman Aaron Odom (T-37th, 233), sophomore Tyler Goecker (t-73rd, 241) and sophomore Tommy Clifford (T-75, 242). The team is currently tied for eighth overall.
