JCCC Men Harriers Win Conference, Finish Third in Region
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College men’s cross country team won its 10th East Jayhawk Conference cross country championship, and the seventh under head coach Mike Bloemker, last week at the KJCCC/Region VI Cross Country Championship in Garden City, Kan. The team also finished third in the Region VI standings behind Butler County and Garden City. The championship meet was held on a very hilly Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.
A total of five JCCC runners earned East Jayhawk All-Conference honors, and three of those five also raced to All-Region VI recognition.
JCCC sophomore Tighe Van Anne (Euroda, Kan.) led the way placing runner-up in the conference and 11th in Region VI with a time of 28:23.11. Close behind was sophomore Blake Koger (Topeka, Kan.). He finished third in the conference standings, and 13th in the region.
Joining those two as an all-conference and all-region performer was freshman Kory Cool of Manhattan, Kan. Cool, who has been a key performer all season, placed fourth and 14th respectively with a time of 28:33.45.
JCCC’s final two all-conference performers were sophomores Alan Kroll (Lansing, Kan.), who finished fifth and 16th overall with a time of 28:48.92, and Justin Simonich (Kansas City, Kan.), who placed sixth and 19th respectively with a time of 28:58.76.
