JCCC cross country teams ranked among nation's top 10
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Hill 'N' Dale, the official rankings for NJCAA Division I cross country, recently released its top 25 for week six of the season, and the women's and men's teams from Johnson County Community College were picked among the top 10 in the country. The women, who have appeared in the top 10 all season, stand third nationally for a second straight week, behind Butler and Iowa Central. The team received two first place votes. The men moved into the top 10 at No. 9, up two spots from No. 11 last week.
Additionally, Hill 'N' Dale released its first performance lists for the 2008 season. JCCC sophomore Temer Yimer of North Kansas City, Mo., and freshman Sarah Stark of Mission, Kan., rank among the top 10 on the 5k performance list. Yimer is fifth with a time of 18:27 which she recorded at the Tabor Invitational, Sept. 27. Stark is ninth with a time of 18:37. She also posted that time at Tabor. They rank as the top two American runners in the listing. Sophomore Francis Gipson of Shawnee, Kan., is ranked 15th overall with a performance of 19:14 from Tabor.
On the men's side, freshman Philip Hickman of Blue Springs, Mo., is currently ranked 32nd in the country on the 8k performance list. He made the list with a time of 26:19 which he recorded at the Emporia State Jock's Nitch Invitaional last week. Sophomore Jason Rose of Louisburg, Kan., also cracked the top 50. His time of 26:37 recorded at the Jock's Nitch Invitational has him ranked 45th in the NJCAA.
