JCCC women harriers win Baker’s Maple Leaf Invitational

OVERLAND PARK, KS --  The Johnson County Community College women’s cross country team captured top honors at the Baker University Maple Leaf Invitational, Sept. 6, in Baldwin City, Kan.  Three JCCC runners finished in the top-10, the most of any team in the field.

Leading the way for the Cavaliers was returning sophomore All-American Temer Yimer of Park Hill South High School. Yimer placed third overall, and finished the 4k course in 15:20.15, which ranks as the second best performance by a JCCC runner in the program’s history.

Close behind was sophomore Sarah Stark of Shawnee Mission South High School.  Stark placed fourth with a time of 15:23.06. That effort ranks third all-time in JCCC history.

Also finishing in the top 10 for the Lady Cavaliers was sophomore Francis Gipson out of Shawnee Mission North. Gipson placed eighth overall with a time of 15:51.12. Her time ranks ninth all-time at JCCC.

Rounding out the JCCC contingent were freshman Haley Snow of Pleasanton, Kan. (25th-16:31.67); freshman Kayla Harris of Soldier, Kan. (28th-16:38.43); sophomore Kaitlyn Flynn of Hutchinson, Kan.
