JCCC Harriers win Cavalier Cup

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College women's and men's cross country teams used some home course knowledge to their advantage last Saturday, as both teams came away champions at the 2008 Cavalier Cup. The women won with a total of 15 points, and men were champions with a 20 point total. Both teams are ranked in the top 10 nationally.

In the women's race, JCCC finished one through six, and had seven in the top eight overall. Winning the event was sophomore Sarah Stark, who finished the 4k course in 15:58.50. That time ranks as the 10th best 4k performance in the program's history. She recorded the third best time in history last week at the Maple Leaf Invitational. Rounding out the top 10 runners for JCCC were Temer Yimer (2nd-16:15.40), Francis Gipson (3rd-16:40.60), Haley Snow (4th-17:25.20), Heather Koochie (5th-17:51.30), Kayla Harris (6th-17:51.80) and Renae DuPree (8th-17:59.40).

On the men's side, all seven of JCCC's runners were among the top 12 in the race. Leading the way was freshman Josh Lacer. He finished runner-up with a 5k time of 17:22.30. He was followed by Phillip Hickman (3rd-17:22.70), Adrian Marquez (4th-17:39.80), James Carter (6th-17:47.30), Bryan Beachum (8th-17:59.40), Rico Koth (9th-18:19.80) and Preston Speakman (12-18:35.90).
