Johnson out duels Allen County for second straight conference sweep
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Cavaliers sent ace Kyle Crandall to the hill in game one. After allowing a two run homerun in the first inning, Crandall settled down and was nearly untouchable for his next five innings of work, allowing his offense to get their bats rolling. Jeremey Francis did his job by getting on base, going 3-for-3 in the game. Chris Dobler had a big two-RBI double to give the Cavaliers the lead. Luis Lopez and Eddie Torres each went 1-for-2 with one RBI providing all the offense the Cavaliers would need to take home game one, 4-3. Justin Miller came on in the 7th and worked a 1-2-3 inning picking up his 5th save of the year. His five saves tie the second-best season total in team history, and rank third for a career. He needs three more to become the all-time saves leader for a season and career.
In game two, the pitching staff out dueled Allen County in a 10 inning nail-bitter. JCCC took a 1-0 lead into the seventh, but the Red Devils were able to punch across an unearned earn, tying the game at 1-1. CJ Herrforth and Kyle Frets shut down Allen County in extra innings, giving the offense time to push a run across in the 10th. Kyle Byler played the hero by getting a single with two outs to drive in Lopez the winning run. Jeremy Francis continued his hot hitting by going 2-for-3. Miller also collected two hits in three plate appearances.
With its second straight sweep in conference play the Cavaliers find themselves tied for second in conference standings, and will resume action at home against Ft. Scott on Thursday at 1 p.m.
