Carlsen Center Mission
The Carlsen Center held its grand opening in January 1991 and was immediately recognized as housing the finest performing arts halls in the Mid-America region. In 1999, the mission was expanded to serve as resource to experience world class performing artists, provide stimulating arts education experiences for all ages, and be a national leader in the field of performing arts presenting. We serve as a cultural hub for the community-at-large; in addition to being a resource for professional and practicing performing artists as well as JCCC students, faculty and staff. Each season we offer a variety of performances ranging from family shows to headliners, opera to classical soloists, and modern dance to ethnic music. We focus on presenting top-notch national and international artists which offer opportunities to develop educational outreach activities and foster collaborations with community organizations. The Carlsen Center is committed to commissioning or co-commissions new works each season. This commitment is grounded in two synergistic beliefs: (a) the education and development of futures audiences lies within an appreciation for and understanding of contemporary works, and (b) to fulfill a nurturing role for the artists to expand their artistic works.
