English

An integral part of the college experience is writing clearly and effectively and including research in your written assignments. You can improve these skills, and many others, through our English classes, which are offered in a variety of formats including on-campus, online, late-start and self-paced.

We are committed to helping you with writing — from crafting effective sentences to creating groundbreaking research projects, from technical writing to creative writing, from digital narratives to writing for interactive media. Our courses run the full gamut of college-level writing:

  • Our developmental classes—Writing Strategies and Introduction to Writing—develop the basic writing skills you need to perform college-level work.
  • Composition I and Composition II are our most popular courses, primarily because they are prerequisites for many other courses and are requirements for most college degrees (both at JCCC and elsewhere). But we don’t stop there—we also offer Technical Writing and Advanced Composition that take you to the next level.
  • We foster creativity through our traditional Creative Writing courses (Creative Writing, Creative Writing Workshop) and our cutting-edge writing courses that focus on Interactive Media and Digital Narratives.
  • If you aren’t seeking college credits, our Continuing Education department can help you gain practical skills to improve your written communications.
